Could A Luxury Tiny Home Be Your Next Getaway?

If you've always dreamed of living in a luxury home but don't want the associated price tag (or property tax price tag), you may be intrigued at the prospect of a luxury tiny home. Tiny homes are all the rage these days, and their low utility costs and portability give them multigenerational appeal. From young professionals who need to remain mobile in an evolving job market to retirees who'd like to see more of the country, tiny homes can offer a big return in a small package. Learn more about what you can expect when purchasing a luxury tiny home.

What Makes a Tiny Home a Luxury One?

All tiny homes are built to optimize hidden storage space, giving them the same functionality of larger homes in just a few hundred square feet. But luxury tiny homes take this functionality up a notch with high-dollar finishes, off-grid technology (allowing you more versatility in where you locate your tiny home), and additional space.

Some luxury tiny homes include solar panels, composting toilets, and water filtration systems, helping you maintain creature comforts without "plugging in". Often, these upgrades can pay for themselves in the form of reduced (or eliminated) utility bills. You may also be able to have a wireless hotspot installed in your tiny home, giving you internet access even when you're miles from the nearest tower.

What Should You Consider When Browsing Luxury Tiny Homes?

When you're considering a tiny home purchase, there are a few things to keep in mind.

  1. Why do I want a tiny home? If you're hoping to be able to move your tiny home from place to place, your needs may be different than if you'd prefer to put your tiny home on a permanent foundation. For example, a mobile tiny home may benefit from lightweight finishes so that it's easier to move, while a permanent tiny home can offer additional or expandable storage space.
  2. Am I going to maintain a regular home or storage area? Some tiny home dwellers don't downsize but instead move most of their belongings to another home or storage unit. If you're hoping to make your tiny home your only home, you may want to look at slightly larger models that provide more space.
  3. What parts of the home are most important to me? Some luxury tiny homes make the kitchen the home's focal point by incorporating it into the living space. For home chefs, this can provide the feel of a standard kitchen while still keeping the house to just a few hundred square feet. Larger families may prefer to dedicate some space to multiple bathrooms.

By considering your needs, you'll be well-positioned to choose the tiny home layout that's perfect for your family.
