Look For A One Bedroom Senior Apartment

Whether you don't want the responsibility of caring for a large home, or whether you are selling your large home so that you'll have extra money for your retirement years, maybe you and your spouse have been considering living in a rented one-bedroom apartment that is perfect for senior living. Now you just need to decide on what kind of apartment you want.

A big part of your decision will probably be made because of your lifestyle. For instance, if you and your spouse are both in good health and you want to live independently, think of finding an agent who will find a one-bedroom apartment in the area of town you'd like to live in. If you want to be close to your friends, your church, your doctors, and other services you've used for many years, the apartment rental agent will more than likely be able to find an apartment that is close to your present home.

Maybe you are looking down the road and you are considering the fact that the time will soon come when neither you nor your spouse will be able to drive. If that's something you are thinking about, a one-bedroom apartment that is on a bus line might be a good choice. Or, the rental agency might find the perfect apartment that is in close walking distance to movies, shopping, church, and restaurants.  

An assisted living facility is another great option. At this type of facility, you can still maintain your independence, but you will have many planned activities available to you. For instance, if you enjoy social events, there will probably be things like planned game nights and Sunday morning get-togethers. In addition, things like book clubs, gardening groups, exercise classes, and field trips. You'll probably even have the opportunity to go on field trips. 

There are other things to consider when you are looking for a one-bedroom apartment to rent. For instance, if you still want to work in a garden, select an apartment that has at least a small back or front yard, or both. If you have enjoyed outdoor entertaining in the past, an apartment that has a patio with enough room for a table and chairs and a small grill. 

When you furnish your new apartment, think of buying a futon or a sofa that turns into a bed for times that you might have overnight guests in town. You have many options when looking for a one bedroom senior apartment.
