After you contact an agent for help with selling your home, the agent will likely do the following three things.

1. Research Your Home

When a homeowner calls a real estate agent to sell a home, the agent will ask some questions about the property. The agent needs to know this information to perform research on the home. The purpose of researching a home is to learn as much as possible about the house. During this research, the agent will learn more about the home's features, such as age and size. The agent will learn about the location of the home, which tells a lot about its value and demand. The agent might learn many other things, too.

2. Create an Evaluation of Your House

The agent will then use this information to create an evaluation of the house. Agents often call this a comparative market analysis (CMA). This evaluation serves one main purpose – to help homeowners determine selling prices. The CMA compares one home to other local homes, and it is something that helps an agent know how much a house is worth.

3. Schedule an In-Home Visit

When the agent completes the first two steps, they will schedule an in-home visit. The agent needs to see your home in person, as every home is unique. During this meeting, the agent will present the research to you and will explain everything. The agent will also explain how the agreement works between you and them. You can ask questions while the agent is there, and you can sign a listing agreement if you want.

The in-home visit provides a way for the agent to view your home and give you tips for improvement. You can take the advice or leave it, but you should consider making any changes that the agent recommends while they are at your home. Once you sign the contract, the agent will begin looking for a buyer for your property.
