Real estate agents perform a lot of tasks that will help you out a lot when you are selling your home. Some people attempt to sell their homes without an agent to try to save on the fee the agent would get. They sometimes end up finding themselves getting less money in the long run when they do sell their homes and some people end up getting a real estate agent down the line when they are unsuccessful in selling their home, finding they then end up with the process taking longer than it would of and being out money they may have put out themselves while trying to sell on their own. There are many reasons why going with an agent right away. If you don't know all the different tasks a real estate agent does, here are some of them: 

Advertising the home - The agent will list your house on the MLS, which is the listing system for homes that go on the market. It is the list that agents also check when looking for homes for their clients who are looking to buy. However, there are many other ways agents go about advertising the homes they are selling for clients as well. They can use their website, online ads, print ads, TV commercials, radio commercials, flyers, signs, and more. 

Showing the home - The real estate agent will be the one who shows your home to anyone interested in seeing it. They may also hold an open house and this is where they devote a day to staying at the house while various agents bring clients to see it who may be interested in it and people can walk in off the street who may be interested in buying it as well. The agent will also prepare the home for the open house by staging it and using other tricks, such as making the home feel homey by having baked goods set out that smell great. 

Selling the home - The agent will bring the seller all the offers that come in for the home. Once the seller decides to accept an offer, the agent will also take care of the paperwork that needs to be completed and take care of all the other tasks that need to be done in order for the sale to be completed. The paperwork can be confusing, but having a real estate agent help with it makes the process much easier.
